Tablets have magnesium chloride, as opposed to magnesium oxide, for higher bioavailability.
Most magnesium products contain magnesium oxide, a formulation which, though inexpensive and readily available, has been shown to be poorly absorbed by the body.

A study conducted at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Northport, New York showed that magnesium oxide achieves only 4% fractional absorption.
